COPPER CARE

CARING FOR YOUR COPPER PIECES (INCLUDING JEWELRY)

Copper is a beautiful, living metal and it reacts naturally to air, moisture, and skin chemistry, which means the look of your piece will change over time. This is part of copper's natural character and is NOT a flaw!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Copper naturally darkens and develops a patina with wear. Some people love this aged look, though others prefer to polish it away.
  • Copper can react with skin oils and pH, sometimes leaving a temporary green or dark mark on skin. This is a NORMAL chemical reaction, not a sign of poor quality, and it washes off.
  • Exposure to moisture, lotions, perfume, and sweat WILL speed up tarnishing.

CARE TIPS:

  • Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, or applying lotion/perfume.
  • Store in a dry place, ideally in an airtight bag or container with an anti-tarnish strip, away from direct sunlight.
  • To clean, use a soft polishing cloth. For deeper tarnish, a mix of lemon juice and salt or a copper-safe polish works well. AVOID harsh chemical cleaners.
  • A thin coat of clear jewelry sealant/wax can slow tarnishing if you prefer the bright, polished look to last longer.

A NOTE ON SENSITIVIES:
Some individuals may experience skin irritation from copper, especially with prolonged contact. If you have a known metal sensitivity or notice irritation, discontinue wear and consult a physician.

DISCLAIMER: Each piece is handmade and may vary slightly in color, shape, and finish. Copper is a natural material that will age and patina uniquely with wear — this is expected and not considered a defect. [Wild Mountain Creations] is not responsible for skin reactions, discoloration of clothing, or tarnishing that results from normal wear and exposure to moisture or chemicals.
